Animation

Statement general
2013 / 2024

Since 2013, I have been developing animations that have led me to explore new ways of telling stories through movement and sound. I use a mix of techniques, including cutouts, magazine collages, and painting, to compose the animations and achieve a personal and improvisational charge in their content. Through this creative process, personal experiences are transmuted into stories that are joined together through movement and sound, enhancing perceptual sensations and creating a unifying experience for the viewer.

Alienation and different interpretations are key elements in my work and are reflected in the symbolic goal of my moving paintings. The pictorial expressiveness allows me to establish relationships, criticisms, and analyses about the human condition, contemporary social problems, politics, and art. My characters are often shrouded in anonymity, a genetic scribble that refers to the sign of the «human being.» This ambiguity and lack of definition in the characters invite the viewer to reflect on their own identity and to question the way we relate to others and the world around us.

Each video is a work of art in itself, full of symbolism and hidden meaning, which invites the viewer to discover and explore. My goal as an artist is to create a visual world that generates a deep and meaningful experience for the viewer, and I hope that my moving paintings provoke a deeper reflection on the human condition.

Sísifo is not Fake News

Chapter No.1

The video revolves around Albert Camus’ «The Myth of Sisyphus». I put it in the context of the hyperreal era where we live with data saturations: «Real and Fake News». These are provoking all the time hyperrealities, confusing ideas in the midst of a state of doubt in which we are constantly looking for a solution or divine magic.

Force of attraction

I am constantly looking for actions in specific moments, small narratives provoked even as natural accidents.

Lightning strikes the man but in the end a car catches fire.
What is that red line that diverts the destiny?

Act 1,2,3

This animated series explores the complexity of the idea of death through symbols, images and confrontations. Each video presents a unique perspective on mortality, from violence and pain to the frenetic dance of life and death in a delicate balance, and finally death as a ritual of transformation and purification.

Act 1: Red crow

«Death is a violent and painful act that confronts us with the reality of our mortality and our vulnerability in the face of the inevitable transition to death.»

Act 2: Dodging

«Although death may seem imminent, life and death are always in a delicate balance. The frenzied dance of the skulls evokes the fragility of existence and the uncertainty of the ultimate fate of every human being.»

Act 3: Everything happens at night

«The idea of death as a ritual of transformation and purification, a portal to a new cyclical beginning».

The artwork «Red Samurai» plays with the idea of the transience of life and how it influences our perception of the world around us. The samurai, representing mortality, stands on the edge of a mountain where life and death merge. The skulls falling from the sky symbolize death and the transition to a new stage.

The presence of the spears with skulls on the tip represents power and strength in life, while the flash that makes the samurai reappear symbolizes light and hope for a new life. The repetition of the video as a loop reinforces the idea of the transience of life and how everything we do can be repetitive and have an inevitable end.

All is about me

We are saturated and full of issues that pretend to give us social meaning. We must first overcome our own attachments. That is the great leap in the struggle of the individual against his inner self.

The beard of Babel

Animation-Rotoscopia

2016

The rotoscoped animation video shows a pensive man searching for a solution or idea. As his beard grows, it becomes a symbol of the man’s intellectual growth. However, it reaches a point where it becomes an obstacle and the man stumbles several times over his beard until he finally decides to cut it. The cutting of the beard is not necessarily what is hindering him, suggesting that sometimes we need to let go of things we think are holding us back and search for deeper solutions.

The animation is related to the story of Babel in which humans build a tower to reach the heavens, but God confuses their languages and separates them. The growth of the beard can symbolize human intellectual growth and their quest to reach greater heights. However, just like in the story of Babel, sometimes our efforts can result in an obstacle that prevents us from moving forward, suggesting that we need to seek deeper and more authentic solutions to achieve our growth and evolution.

Routine Consciousness Process

2014

«Routine Consciousness Process» explores emotional alienation and social judgment within a contemporary context marked by repetition and psychological strain. Through a fragmented visual narrative, the video reflects the internal struggle between the desire for liberation and the external pressures that shape our identity.

The work questions how repressed emotions, rather than dissipating, recycle themselves into an endless cycle of tension and discomfort. The characters, trapped in this repetitive process, embody the duality between societal control and the fantasy of breaking free from imposed norms. The symbols of «parasites» and «rocks» represent the emotional and social burdens that hinder authentic self-expression, while the violent actions allude to a symbolic act of resistance against these oppressive forces.

At its core, the animation presents a critique of daily alienation, suggesting that in the pursuit of imposed order, the individual becomes trapped in a spiral of emotional disconnection and inner conflict.

The Last Seed

2014

«This stop motion animation presents a strong and expressionist visuality that combines painting and magazine collage to create a symbolic landscape that refers to humanity’s concern for the survival of our species on Earth. Through a bodily ritual, the characters seek to purify the human being, and the result of this process is a red diamond created from different bodily fluids. The image of the diamond is a powerful symbol of perfection and durability, contrasting with a desolate field without human presence, suggesting a new beginning. In this work, the importance of renewal is explored, as well as the need to reconsider our relationship with the environment. With an expressionist and symbolic artistic technique, this animation invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between the human being and the world around us, and the need to protect it for future generations.»

Regenerating

The video starts with the image of two seemingly identical women who gradually reveal their differences as they confront each other. Through this dynamic, the video explores the theme of internal rivalry and the struggle to accept oneself. The narrative focuses on how constant comparison with others and pressure to meet certain social standards can lead to an internal struggle that can trigger self-destruction. Through images and visual symbols, the video seeks to raise awareness about the importance of self-acceptance and valuing individuality.

ECKO

The name «Ecko» refers to the fashion brand and the acoustic phenomenon, and this video uses sound frequency bars to simulate an immersive audiovisual experience. Throughout the video, faces and industrial brands are presented that are constantly updated. The faces are continually reconstructed, as if trying to adapt to the present moment. This video exposes how mass media and propaganda are constantly evolving to attract customers. Propaganda has become a kind of virus that often goes unnoticed, as we have learned to live with it.

Framed Fiction

The adaptation of the movie «Pulp Fiction» focuses on a selection of scenes that have been organized into a new sequence that alters the original pace of the movie. A visual relationship has been created with the script content through an expressionist depiction that highlights the emotional intensity of the scenes. The ending of the adaptation has been manipulated to establish a contrast between the grotesque and the attractive in popular culture, generating an emotional impact on the viewer. The selection of the scenes and their new organization seek to highlight the narrative and visual style of the original movie, but also offer a new and personal perspective on its meaning and cultural relevance.
