Croma is a video that tells the story of two twin brothers, who assume the role of dominator and dominated respectively. The dominator imposes his perception of reality on the other by means of Virtual Reality glasses that submerge him in a simulation that he assumes as Reality and in his context of references, as the only truth. No matter the strategy articulated, it is always necessary not to lose control. The other brother allows himself to be manipulated, it has already become an addiction to want to be controlled, he needs a leader to make decisions for him and to disrupt his perception of reality, a vision that, although imposed without the possibility of opinion, is accepted and even desired. These interpretations become increasingly credible, blurring at times the boundaries between the real and the manipulated. This generates an ambiguity for both the spectator and the characters. This confusion blurs the roles of power between the two brothers, just as the dominator attempts to maintain control with no guarantee of triumph. This dominance could be interpreted as a metaphor for the control of his own reality.

In the Jungle series, we try to convey a generational mood. To represent a »reality» that constantly turns between protest and acceptance through a very peculiar surrealism. In a primary way we are interested in showing a perspective that lies behind the surface, that which is kept hidden, and only mysticism acquires prominence. With a visuality similar to video games, we try to find points of interest that reflect the possibility of a trophy, and to feel power in another reality. The jungle as a place and environment for survival, a competitive space to ascend to different levels.
Somehow we suggest this new world as the real one, the one you don’t see but it is there. It does not necessarily need interaction, the idea that it was always there emphasizes that we live in constant simulation. A simulation of a truth, one that is now in constant re-actualization and from which we have lost our role, presenting us with a recreated universe from which we cannot escape. It is not only a fiction suggested by technological paraphernalia, it is a possible way to understand our context.

«The Artifice of Myth» at Collage Habana Gallery, one of the main galleries of FCBC, which belongs to the Cuban art institution. In this one, similar to the previous one, a video installation creates an analogy in relation to its location with the 3D simulated space. Besides containing vegetation, the second floor of the simulated space is also flooded with water.
Residues of a story
Bettelheim said that fairy tales form internal conflicts that originate in our unconscious, while Freud stated that the dream constitutes an emancipation of the spirit from power in external nature and, in the face of this renewed inventory with contemporary plots of our anguish, we find ourselves moving forward alone, with the terrifying possibility of facing various endings, with unsatisfactory bonds with the other, with nefarious forces that wield power, and with the repetition of one as a residue of oneself .

In the video there is apparently a pause between the characters appearing in the scene, as if it were a photograph. It captures the instant after a supposed action. Only the waves and the wind establish the movement.
Story:
Toes tap against the sea foam. A heavy lying body rests on another with a delicate face that endures hunger and thirst. The pose is reminiscent of a sculptural image, where both the one who tries to revive and the one who absorbs in her lap the final pain of the sigh. The roots were strong before a bullet separated it from the surface. It protects itself, or tries to establish a boundary between sea and land, where its center has a negligible difference. All the time it changes, the tide shapes itself. Today there are more white stripes than black, sometimes it is the other way around. The matter has been perforated and has escaped through the orifice. The body is already on the shore, but now as a dog, the sea returns it to the sand but always as wet flesh. It is floating, in search of a new suit. Let’s hope he doesn’t die the same way, or at least that they don’t try again. He always thinks he can talk but ends up adrift. A castaway body inside the sea is not heard. Silence is always sighted, silence…

In the course of a day, small everyday moments mingle with actions reminiscent of rituals related to religion and mysticism. We find ourselves moving forward alone, with the terrifying possibility of facing several endings, with unsatisfactory bonds with the other and repetition as a residue of oneself.
Story:
It all begins with the light, the flashes of the great reddened sphere. Near it and slave of the heat, in the space-time, where life never fits in the same container, there is another globule but much smaller. Billions of living beings inhabit it. The «humans», the most developed beings on that planet. They live from day to day without being aware of their most elementary acts. Few have dedicated themselves over the centuries to connection. They have found in observation, beautiful tiny landscapes that for others are imperceptible in the milliseconds that only occur in front of their eyes. By having this link, they have managed to live longer. They do not think of immediate and programmed actions, but everything is part of the search, of the surprise. Every 707 years, new walkers are chosen to be integrated into society. They travel from place to place, until they get to know all the terrains of the planet. As everything is constantly changing, it is necessary to repeat the analysis. That is why their life is so long. One understands in a practical-rational way and the other in an empirical way. This difference establishes a balance between two ways of conceiving the environment. The new ones, the source of power has caressed them while they slept. It already knows their faces. While the sun continues to rule the space, below continues the archer and the philosopher arguing about who is more accurate.

In two synchronized projections, an analogy is established between the images. It refers to the confusion of man trying to overcome his human condition towards a new society governed by the lamb. The video shows the artist himself in the role of a shepherd guiding the flock.
Story:
Life in the resistance had created a new man, a man who believed in a new god. This god was the god of all stories. The man was his own god and every moment a new ritual dedicated to him was born. Each rite was as powerful as the previous one. A gesture, only 7 seconds of contact with him, only this was what he obtained with each ritual. All the time; effort and dedication ended in these single 7 seconds. «That’s what you live for,» she said to herself. This man apart from being her new god, also became her own collector. Just the gesture, nothing existed beyond this. History ceased to make sense, the future ceased to worry and all time is one and the same. Today the nest is pushed by the current of the river, the blue pieces become artifice and the new man returns as a god…

FM7 is an Art Collective founded officially in 2017 by Fabián González and Mario Sergio Alvarez, both Cubans. Co-founders of A Week for an Artist (AWA), a virtual art platform on Instagram: @a_week_for_an_artist, to promote mainly Cuban artists.
